I was born in Canada and have lived in the Netherlands for over 20 years. I offer therapy for couples and individuals in English.
I completed a Masters in Counselling from Webster University in Leiden, the Netherlands. In addition to private practice, I serve as the staff welfare officer in an international organisation and have acted as a consultant for the Gender and Children's Unit for the International Criminal Court, The Hague. I have also received training in Parent-Child Reflective Functioning at the Yale Child Study Center. Prior to my work in mental health I was a senior lecturer in graphic design in Dutch post-secondary education.
I am a Certified Gottman Therapist (CGT), certification consultant and trainer for the Level One Gottman Method Couples Therapy workshops for professionals.
I am also trained and work with the following modalities:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a short-term form of therapy that focuses on adult relationships and attachment/bonding.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) works by changing people's attitudes and their behavior by focusing on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that are held (a person's cognitive processes) and how these processes relate to the way a person behaves, as a way of dealing with emotional problems.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a unique empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies, together with commitment and behavior change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility.
I am a member of the Algemene Beroepsvereniging voor Counselling (ABvC) and adhere to their ethical codes of professional practice.
Commitment is a choice we make every single day, over and over again. We choose it even when we are tired and overworked and stressed out.John M. Gottman
